Blue Diamond Seeks To Dazzle At Sotheby's

Blue precious gems aren't the rarest of the tinted precious gems but they are inclined to do well at auction, bigger pebbles often order peak charges (a 7.03 carat pebble traded for $9.49 million last year). Sotheby's Hong Kong is wanting to get a large-scale outcome for a 5.16 carat azure precious gem being auctioned off at the Hong Kong Magnificent Jewels and Jadeite Spring Sale on April 7. The pear-shaped adorned vivid azure precious gem is internally flawless and is the first azure precious gem from the De Beers Millennium Jewels Collection to emerge at auction. The phenomenal assemblage was offered by De Beers in 2000 to commemorate the new millennium. Each of the azure precious gems was particularly laser-inscribed with a De Beers Millennium number. The 5.16-carat gem being suggested in Hong Kong bears the inscription "De Beers Millennium Jewel 11". Of the 11 azure precious gems, 9 were ranked by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) as Fancy Vivid, the largest hue ranking for tinted diamonds. This pebble is valued for its natural atmosphere azure hue and is approximated to convey in between $4.6 million and $5.8 million.

Blue precious gems get their hue from the occurrence of the chemical component boron throughout the stone's formation. This pebble came from the Premier Diamond Mine of Transvaal, South Africa, the major source of azure precious gems in the world. Out of all the uneven precious gems extracted from the Premier Diamond Mine each year, usually only one important azure precious gem can be produced.
